An NFL player on a Southwest flight saved a woman’s life on Tuesday thanks to a diabetic testing kit.
Andrew Springs, a passenger on the flight from Baltimore to Phoenix, recounted on social media how the woman had a medical emergency during the flight, and a doctor and nurse couldn’t find a strong pulse. Her blood pressure was low, and she needed oxygen.
“It was genuinely scary,” he wrote.
That’s when Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews stepped in: “Could it be her blood sugar? I have a diabetic testing kit.”
Eventually, the woman’s heart rate stabilized, according to Springs, and paramedics met the flight at landing, while Andrews left the plane without fanfare.

A man in the aisle seat popped up, “Could it be her blood sugar? I have a diabetic testing kit.”
It was @Ravens TE Mark Andrews.
Andrews instructed the medical professionals (equal citizen heroes in this story) on using his test kit. Eventually her heart-rate stabilized. (2/3)

Paramedics met the flight as soon as we landed. Andrews deplaned quietly. No fanfare. As he has done his whole career, he stepped up in a huge moment when people needed him most.
Watching complete strangers spring into action to help save someone’s life is truly amazing. (3/3)

Andrews’ season ended last week when he had 2 catches for 15 yards in the AFC Championship loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. It was Andrews’ first game since he suffered an ankle injury in November against Cincinnati and was thought to be lost for the season.
