Oklahoma football announced the hiring of Jim Nagy as the program’s next general manager on Wednesday morning.
Nagy has served as the executive director of the Senior Bowl since 2018. The Senior Bowl is widely-regarded as the nation’s top college all-star game and has a big influence on the NFL Draft each year.
“This is a new era in intercollegiate athletics at one of the greatest college football programs in the country,” Nagy said in a press release. “The legacy of excellence that precedes my arrival is a testament to the leadership at OU and the university’s commitment to execute at a championship level. I am honored to bring my experience and work ethic to this program and am confident that through collaboration and effort, we can achieve excellent results. I am truly excited to get to Norman and begin our process with Coach Venables and his great staff.”
Here’s the official announcement:
Per the press release, Nagy will build out a “progressive new structure uniquely tailored to meet the most current challenges in college football.”
Nagy replaces Curtis Lofton, a former Oklahoma linebacker who resigned from his role as general manager earlier this offseason.
From his role as the Senior Bowl director, Nagy built relationships with numerous college coaches, scouts, agents and NFL front offices. Those connections will presumably come in handy on a number of levels as the Sooners look to build out their future rosters.
Oklahoma is entering a pivotal year under coach Brent Venables. After a disappointing 2024 campaign, Venables is widely believed to be on the hot seat going into the 2025 season. However, a hire like Nagy could alter the fortunes of a program that has not reached the College Football Playoff since 2019.
