Ryan Minor, multi-sport legend at Oklahoma, passes away after battle with cancer

Ryan Minor, a former standout baseball and basketball player for Oklahoma, passed away on Friday at the age of 49 after a battle with cancer.

Minor had been battling colon cancer. His twin brother, Damon, announced the news:

As a basketball player, Minor played for the Sooners from 1992-96. He was Big Eight Player of the Year as a junior in 1995 and was named first-team All-Big Eight twice. He was also a two-time All-American for Oklahoma and was selected in the 2nd round of the 1996 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers.

Minor also earned All-America honors as a baseball player at Oklahoma. Minor helped lead Oklahoma to the 1994 College World Series title. He was twice selected in the MLB Draft and ended up participating in spring training with the Baltimore Orioles in 1997 after he was released by the 76ers.

Minor played in parts of 4 seasons in Major League Baseball for the Orioles as well as the Montreal Expos.

Minor is survived by his wife, Allyson, and 2 daughters.
