Will Spencer Rattler enter the NCAA transfer portal?
That’s not a question many thought they’d be asking at the start of the season, when the Oklahoma quarterback was expected to be a front-runner for the Heisman Trophy. But after the redshirt sophomore was benched during the second quarter of Saturday’s game against Texas, that seems like a legitimate thing to wonder.
The Sooners turned to true freshman quarterback Caleb Williams, who could potentially seize the starting job if he continues to play well. If that happens, it would put Rattler’s future in jeopardy, considering he’d have a hard time getting opportunities with Williams leading the offense.
Of course, Rattler will be eligible to enter the 2022 NFL Draft. But if his stock falls because of the second half of the 2021 season, then maybe he’ll want to stay in college another year to try to fix that.
