A pair of Ole Miss safeties are looking at playing elsewhere this fall. Jordan Jernigan and Jalen Denton have entered their names into the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz.
Jernigan was a wide receiver his first 3 seasons with the Rebels. He was listed as a safety on the 2022 spring roster. Jernigan appeared in 9 games from 2019-to-2021. A Tupelo (Mississippi) product, Jernigan also had scholarship offers from Mississippi State, Oregon and Southern Miss.
Denton, a walk-on, played in 10 games over the past 2 seasons, making a tackle in 2020. The Memphis native could play 4 seasons at his new school, using the NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver for 2020 and taking a redshirt for last season, in which he appeared in only 3 games.
It’s a busy week for the NCAA transfer portal. College football players must be in the portal by May 1 to play in 2022 without a waiver. The May 1 deadline is only to enter the portal, as players can transfer after that date. Players occasionally withdraw from the portal and rejoin the team.
