Ole Miss strolled to a dominant 73-7 victory over Mercer Saturday afternoon behind a slew of strong offensive performances from Jaxson Dart, Tre Harris and more.

It’s just Mercer, but there was a lot of good to take away from the Rebels’ early-season victory. This game was never close, as it should be.

Let’s not waste any more time. Here are 3 takeaways from Ole Miss’ first win since October 29.

Tre Harris makes Ole Miss history

There were plenty of strong performances to go around, but Tre Harris would easily take home MVP honors for Saturday’s beatdown.

The Louisiana Tech transfer did not take long to find the end zone in Oxford. Harris hauled in touchdown No. 1 less than 1 minute into the game.

Ole Miss’ post announcing the score had no idea. Dart and Harris had many more connections to make Saturday alone. He finished the game with 6 receptions for 133 yards and 4 touchdowns, which breaks the single-game record for most TD receptions in a single game.

Did we mention that touchdowns No. 2 and 3 both came less than 5 minutes after touchdown No. 1? At one point Harris was averaging a touchdown per 45 seconds of game time.

Finally, in the 3rd quarter, Harris broke the record with the below score:

Not a half bad day at the office.

Jaxson Dart QB1 decision pays off early

Jaxson Dart told reporters earlier this week that not being named QB1 for Saturday’s game sooner than gameday “put a chip on his shoulder.

The Rebels were firing on all cylinders Saturday, but Dart and the offense ran smooth as butter from the jump. Dart finished his day having completed 18 of his 23 passes for 334 yards, 4 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. He added 36 rushing yards, too.

A step up in production at QB is just what the doctor ordered for the Rebels to take that next step. Time and reps against teams of consequence will tell if Dart is the man for the job, but Saturday was quite the introduction for the 2023 season.

Sanders, for what it’s worth, also had a strong showing after entering in the 2nd half. The Oklahoma State transfer finished with 134 passing yards and 2 touchdowns with 0 interceptions.

Rebels snap a ST drought

Ole Miss snapped a 10-year drought Saturday: The Rebels scored a punt return touchdown for the first time since 2013.

Jordan Watkins did the honors. Check it out below:

Watkins had a strong day for the Rebels, both in the return game and on offense. He totaled 6 receptions for 111 yards on offense and returned 3 punts for 69 yards and the above touchdown in the return game.

Ole Miss is back in action next week when the Rebels take on No. 24 Tulane in what is likely to be a top 25 battle. The game will be aired on ESPN and is set to kick at 3:30 p.m. ET.
