ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) predicts the results of every college football game every week.
Ahead of Week 3, the formula has dropped its prediction for the Ole Miss vs. Wake Forest matchup.
As is to be expected, FPI feels confident that Ole Miss will come away with a victory. The formula gives the Rebels an 89.4% chance to leave Winston-Salem with a victory.
The Demon Deacons have gotten off to a 1-1 start in 2024. The team dominated against FCS NC A&T in Week 1 before dropping a heartbreaking 1-point loss to Virginia in Week 2.
The Rebels, meanwhile, couldn’t have envisioned a better start. Lane Kiffin and the Rebels have outscored their opponents 128-3 over 2 games and are averaging over 700 yards of offense per game.
On defense, the Demon Deacons have the No. 95 unit in terms of total defense through 2 weeks. The Rebels are No. 20 in the same category, albeit against poor competition. Still, the Rebels have had 7 different players collect a sack so far and have recorded 2 interceptions as a team.
Interestingly, these 2 teams have only played twice in history. The Demon Deacons got the better of the Rebels in both matchups, winning 27-3 in 2006 and 30-28 in 2008. Adding another win would be huge for a Demon Deacons’ team that has struggled to gain positive momentum over the past several seasons.
With a win, the Rebels would improve to 3-0 on the season ahead of SEC play. The team has just one more non-conference game, against Georgia Southern in Week 4, before conference play kicks off against Kentucky later this month.
Ole Miss and Wake Forest will kick off from Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. ET.
