ESPN’s FPI predicts the outcome of the Egg Bowl
ESPN’s FPI is back with more predictions for the week ahead in Week 14.
The Ole Miss Rebels will host the Mississippi State Bulldogs in a game where both teams will be looking to bounce back from tough losses. The Rebels saw their College Football Playoff hopes all but disappear with their 24-17 loss to Florida, while the Bulldogs lost 39-20 at home against Missouri.
While neither team may be playing for a lot in this game, the Egg Bowl is 1 of those rivalries where you can throw out the records. ESPN’s FPI is giving the Rebels just under a 95% chance to win this game, leaving the Bulldogs a huge underdog with just a 5.2% chance to win the game.
The SEC rivals will collide in a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium with the game aired on ABC on Friday.
The Rebels were coming off their biggest win in years, as they knocked off Georgia at home 2 weeks ago. However, they couldn’t follow that up in Week 13, as they were knocked off by the Gators.
Quarterback Jaxson Dart threw for 323 yards and 2 touchdowns, but he also threw 2 late interceptions that ended drives. Ole Miss was unable to sustain any drives throughout the game, as the team finished 3-of-14 on 3rd downs.
It has been a tough year for the Bulldogs, as they dropped to 2-9 on the season with the loss to Missouri. Mississippi State hasn’t won an SEC game this year, and hasn’t won a conference game since beating Arkansas, 7-3 last October.
In the loss to the Tigers, the Bulldogs were dominated at the line of scrimmage. The Tigers were 11-of-18 on 3rd downs, while the Bulldogs were 2-of-10. The time of possession was even worse, as the Tigers had the ball for just under 42 minutes.
Last year, the Rebels won the game by a score of 17-7 in Starkville.
