Ole Miss could use DeVante Kincade right about now.

The former Ole Miss quarterback who transferred to Grambling State was a late-season addition to the Walter Payton Award watch list. The accolade is meant to honor the best FCS player in the country, and Kincade has put together quite the deserving résumé.

He has racked up 2,286 total yards, 23 passing touchdowns and just one interception while leading the Tigers to a 6-1 record. Kincade’s 184.3 passer rating is the second-best in FCS.

Kincade transferred from Ole Miss after last season to be closer to his mother, who is still dealing with health issues from a stroke she suffered a few years ago. He appeared in eight games as a redshirt freshman in 2014 before Chad Kelly took over the starting role the following year.

But after Kelly’s season-ending injury, Rebels fans are probably wishing Kincade was still on campus.
