Ole Miss still has not officially named a starter ahead of the Rebels’ 2023 season opener.
It’s between returner Jaxson Dart and Oklahoma State transfer Spencer Sanders, and though the favorite seems to be Dart, there’s no denying Sanders’ talent at the position.
On Tuesday, Dart was asked if he has a chip on his shoulder due to not being named the starter yet. His answer? Absolutely.

The Rebels might have one of the better QB rooms in the country in terms of stability. Sanders and Dart have both proved they can play above average at a Power 5 program. But “above average” isn’t the limit of what Lane Kiffin and Co. are looking for, either.
At the helm of the Rebels’ 2022 offense Dart put up 2,974 yards with 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last season. Heading into Year 3, those numbers should inflate.
Ole Miss kicks off its 2023 season this Saturday against Mercer on SEC Network+. The game will kick at 2 p.m. ET.
