Kirk Herbstreit is liking what he is seeing from Ole Miss.

The Rebels were slotted at No. 12 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings released on Tuesday evening. They’re coming off a 29-19 win over Texas A&M in their most recent game and have 2 left in the regular season: Vanderbilt on Nov. 20 and Mississippi State on Nov. 25 in the Egg Bowl.

If Lane Kiffin’s team wins both, then its first New Year’s 6 bowl appearance should be secure. It shouldn’t have any issues with Vandy but will face a much stiffer challenge against the Bulldogs, who are ranked 25th in the Playoff rankings.

“I’ll say this. I don’t know if Ole Miss can watch the film that they played A&M last week,” he said. “But, if DJ Durkin’s bunch can follow that up the next couple of weeks, of course they have the big one, Egg Bowl (against Mississippi State), Thanksgiving night. That’s a good game, by the way, to watch.

“If they can keep winning, I know we get focused on the 4, they’ve got a real shot to get to 10-2 and be a New Year’s 6 bowl team. Lane Kiffin [is] doing some great things down in Oxford.”
