Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss moved to 4-0 Saturday with a 35-27 win over Tulsa.
The Rebels weren’t at their best, especially after halftime, and by the end of the game the stands, especially the student sections, were pretty empty.
This Saturday, the No. 14 Rebels open SEC play with a huge home game against No. 7 Kentucky.
During his media availability Monday, Kiffin was asked about fan support in Oxford.
He took the opportunity to take a dig at the fans while also making it clear that his team can’t worry about what’s going on in the stands.
“Regardless of what you come out to before the game or at a halftime, when you come back out and you run out of the tunnel and it looks like a high school game played in a college stadium, you can’t let that affect you,” said Kiffin per 247Sports. “There’s psychology to that, obviously. There’s a home-field advantage for a reason. And when it goes the other way, you kind of have that feeling are we still really playing in a game here? The players have to fight that. We use that as a learning lesson for our guys.”
The lack of numbers in the stands at Vaught Hemingway Stadium this season hasn’t gone unnoticed and has been the source of discussion on social media as well:
This is going to be a long thread. This is absolutely horrendous. Students at Ole Miss- you should all be forced to give up your tickets to REAL fans, like me. I mean are you serious? So what if it was 108°, the only thing you’d consumed in the past 24 hours was beer, pic.twitter.com/gKExuP2xgu

Embarrassing!!!
Need to give tickets away just to pack the stadium. This team deserves more than this! pic.twitter.com/PkVVIFmU16— CHRIS – 1st down Oooooooole Miss! (@CRagan_finsup) September 24, 2022
