Fourth-quarter calls and decisions loomed large in Ole Miss’ 35-28 home loss to Auburn.

In addition to the non-call on Auburn’s return, Kiffin was asked about calling a timeout before a punt and what happened on the game-deciding touchdown.

He also shared what would have happened if Ole Miss had managed to answer and confirmed that a senior defender is out for the remainder of the 2020 season.

Here are some of the highlights of what Kiffin said in postgame:

  • On calling a timeout and then deciding to punt: “That’s fair to question that. We were trying to draw them offside with the hard count. Usually, the timeout isn’t important because we’re ahead, but yeah I mean that’s a very fair question.”
  • On the game-deciding touchdown scored by Auburn WR Seth Williams: “We just got beat on that one. It’s unfortunate and we’re not making excuses. But the game’s on the line and the nickel and the right corner are guys that one week ago were on offense. We’re actually telling them what to do in the game. It is what it is.”
  • If Ole Miss had scored a touchdown at the end of the game, the Rebels would have gone for 2 to win, a call traditionally made by the road team.
  • Senior free safety Jaylon Jones is out for the rest of the season after having surgery for “an upper-body injury.”
