Lane Kiffin gives his first impressions of Alabama amid Tide QB struggles
Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss are 3-0 after a 48-23 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday.
Next up for the Rebels: a trip to Bryant-Denny Stadium for a highly-anticipated Week 4 matchup against Alabama. Alabama looked far from convincing in a 17-3 win over South Florida: Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson combined for 10-of-21 passing for 107 yards and 0 touchdowns. Jalen Milroe, the Tide’s Week 1 and 2 starter, didn’t even play.
Kiffin, in 3 tries, has yet to beat his former boss as head coach of Ole Miss. The 4th time could be a charm considering the Tide’s struggles behind center, but Kiffin, in his postgame press conference on Saturday, expressed sentiment that those struggles won’t make it any less of a challenge for the Rebels to win.
“Well, it’s good to know Bryce [Young] won’t be there. That’s very positive,” Kiffin joked when asked about Alabama’s quarterback situation. “I mean, we’ve all got our issues, and this is one of the best teams, the best team in the last 15 years, and one of the toughest places to play. … It’s a huge challenge, a dynasty, and we’ve gotta do a lot of work just to be on the field with those guys.”
Kickoff from Tuscaloosa on Sept. 23 is set for 3:30 p.m. on CBS. Ole Miss has lost the last 7 games in the series.
