Lane Kiffin didn’t hold back when talking about new clock rule changes this season.

The Ole Miss head coach made it known in his press conference Monday that he is not a fan of the new rules, which say that the clock no longer has to stop on first downs, unless it is within the final 2 minutes of a half.

“I don’t like it. I like change when it’s needed. I’m sure most offensive guys don’t like it and defensive guys do,” Kiffin said. “There was a glaring difference, only so many games played this weekend. It was 1.6, 1.7 percent different in possessions last year, which is a lot. That would be a big difference. I think the game was very exciting. I think college football is very exciting. Fans love it, people love it. So I don’t think this change is good at all.”

The rules were put in place to speed games up and they appear to be working. Several of Saturday’s Week 0 games proved to be faster than average games from last season, and teams had significantly less possessions.
