An Ole Miss grad assistant is reportedly stepping into a new role.

According to David Johnson of 247Sports, Marquise Watson has been promoted by Lane Kiffin from grad assistant to player personnel analyst. Johnson adds that the move comes after Watson was approached by other programs:

Sources told the Ole Miss Spirit that Watson declined overtures from several Group of Five schools and one SEC program this off-season in order to remain in Oxford.

Watson served as the interim defensive line coach for the Rebels’ win over Indiana in the Outback Bowl, filling in for Deke Adams. Former SMU assistant Randall Joyner was hired as the new Ole Miss defensive line coach.

Watson, 25, was included on 247Sports’ “30 under 30” list of the top assistants under the age of 30 for 2020.
