Lane Kiffin watched and celebrated with his team as Ole Miss fans stormed the field following the Rebels’ 55-49 win over LSU last week.

The Rebels were fined for that display of passion by the SEC, which has cracked down on field-storming since some drama took place at Tennessee-Alabama last year. Of course, field-storming has been frowned upon in the past, as well.

Ole Miss’ AD, Keith Carter, even took to the podium this past week to disavow the field-storming by Ole Miss students, saying the following:

“As our program continues to experience big wins like Saturday, our fans should be more accustomed to those moments and avoid field storming situations,” Carter said in a school release Monday. “… We have the most passionate fans in college athletics, but we must reserve the playing field for our student-athletes and coaches.”

At the SEC’s weekly teleconference Wednesday, Ole Miss’ head coach responded to these above comments:

“Usually, the fan thing is a product of not just winning a big game, but winning it at the end of it, like the Tennessee-Alabama a year ago,” Kiffin said. “Especially if you’re coming from behind, like our game, there’s so much excitement. But whatever he said, I agree.”

The Rebels take on Arkansas this week in Oxford. The game is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET.
