Lane Kiffin shares his approach to Alabama as a former Nick Saban assistant
Lane Kiffin was asked how he’ll approach his coaching matchup against Nick Saban when Ole Miss faces Alabama this weekend.
Kiffin said he doesn’t “think about it that way” in terms of an approach with Saban.
“It seems like whoever leaves (Saban) takes him on as a coach at some point. People still communicate between places,” Kiffin said.
Kiffin was Saban’s offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach from 2014 to 2016. During that time, Kiffin was part of the Crimson’s national championship team in 2015.
Kiffin noted he doesn’t overthink his game plan against Alabama, especially since he’s not the one making plays for the Rebels.
“We have a lot of coaches and players who do that stuff, so I don’t put anything extra in it,” Kiffin said.
Kiffin knows one thing, he added, which is to prepare for a Crimson Tide that “has great players.”
“We have scheme things up to have a chance (at a victory),” Kiffin said.
No. 16 Ole Miss (3-0) beat Georgia Tech, 48-23, on Saturday. No. 13 Alabama (2-1) is coming off a 17-3 win over South Florida over the weekend.
The Rebels go up against the Crimson at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday on CBS.
Alabama got the best of Ole Miss in 2022 with a 30-24 victory.
