Lane Kiffin has something in common with UL Monroe coach Terry Bowden.

The 2, who will face off on Saturday, are both coach’s sons. Kiffin’s father, Monte, has been in a coaching capacity since 1966, including stints where he worked with his son like he does now at Ole Miss. Bowden’s father, Bobby, was a coach for more than 5 decades, with his tenure coming to an end at Florida State in 2009.

Ahead of the meeting, Kiffin broke down the similarities between the 2 when it comes to being coach’s sons.

“I have a lot of respect for Coach Bowden,” Kiffin said in his press conference Monday. “We played him in the Boca Bowl when he was Akron, and had a visit with him then. He really did some amazing things at a young age. He won his first 20 games at Auburn. I think growing up around it was awesome. I’m very appreciative of that opportunity, because you start learning so much at a young age. You’re kind of going to football college already when you’re growing up. I’m very appreciative of that and well aware that that has a lot to do with getting opportunities early on because of that.”
