Lane Kiffin looks to have completed his first Ole Miss staff with a name familiar to football fans from the state of Mississippi.

While not yet official, it appears longtime Mississippi State cornerbacks coach Terrell Buckley has left Starkville to join Kiffin’s Ole Miss staff. Buckley had been on staff at Mississippi State since the 2016 season.

The Mississippi native and former NFL defensive back is a popular coach with his players and comes to Oxford with an outstanding reputation as both a coach and recruiter. During his playing days at Florida State, Buckley won the Jim Thorpe Award and went on to intercept 50 passes in the NFL and won a Super Bowl title.

Ole Miss has yet to confirm the hire of the cornerbacks coach but former Mississippi State defensive back Johnthan Banks has publicly congratulated Buckley on landing a job on Kiffin’s staff and Kiffin himself has been retweeting people discussing Buckley’s hire in Oxford.

Following Buckley’s hire, the Rebels now has 10 full-time assistants on Kiffin’s Ole Miss staff. Here’s a look at the staff with their official titles:

  • DJ Durkin – co-defensive coordinator, linebackers

  • Chris Partridge – co-defensive coordinator, safeties

  • Randy Clements – offensive line/run game coordinator

  • Terrell Buckley – cornerbacks

  • Joe Jon Finley – tight ends/passing game coordinator

  • Kevin Smith – running backs

  • Derrick Nix – receivers

  • Freddie Roach – defensive line/recruiting coordinator/associate head coach
