Ole Miss coach Matt Luke had a couple of coordinator openings to fill this offseason, and he filled them with guys who have head coaching experience.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Rebels hired ex-Colorado coach Mike MacIntyre. For offense, they recently hired former Michigan, Arizona and West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez.
On Friday morning, Luke joined SEC This Morning and explained why he felt RichRod was the right guy for the job:
What led Matt Luke to go out and sign Rich Rodriguez to be his new offensive coordinator?

“With the offensive hire, I didn’t think it was really going to affect the early signing period, so I took my time,” Luke said. “His name came across my desk and I was probably like everyone else, like ‘Man, I’d love to get to talk to him and meet him.’ You’d always heard about him being an innovator on offense. … It became apparent that this was the guy.”
How Rodriguez handles an offense that is losing an incredible amount of talent to the NFL will be interesting to see, but he has a lot of experience running high-powered offenses.
