LSU’s offense is grabbing all kinds of headlines, but Ole Miss coach Matt Luke is impressed by the Tigers’ defense.

“They have been really good against the run, Alabama got some yards on them but they do that to everyone,” Luke said on Wednesday’s SEC media teleconference. “I think this is a good LSU defense.”

The Rebels are likely to put some points up on the LSU defense. The tall task for Luke’s squad will be slowing down the Tigers’ high-powered offense called by passing-game coordinator Joe Brady and efficiently run by Heisman Trophy candidate Joe Burrow. Luke discussed a recent turnaround he has seen from the Ole Miss defense.

“I think you’ve had some guys there that have played,” Luke said. “The scheme is not overly complicated and it is getting buy-in from the players.”

The scheme was installed by new defensive coordinator Mike MacIntyre. No defensive coordinator has yet to figure out how to slow down the LSU offense. If MacIntyre can figure out how to do so, it could lead to the biggest upset of the 2019 season in the SEC.

Kickoff on Saturday is set for 6 p.m. local time in Oxford (7 p.m. ET). The game will air on ESPN.
