Incoming Memphis head coach Ryan Silverfield has looked to the SEC and Ole Miss for a key opening on his initial staff as Ole Miss assistant coach Charles Clark has been hired as the Tigers’ defensive backs coach, according to The Daily Memphian. He will replace T.J. Rushing, who followed former Memphis coach Mike Norvell to Florida State.

Clark has been with his alma mater since January 2018, when he came on board as the program’s secondary coach after a stint at Oregon coaching the cornerbacks. His previous stops were at Duke, San José State and Colorado. While at Colorado, he helped the Buffaloes to a top 25 passing defense in 2016.

The Rebels will be led by a new head coach themselves, as Lane Kiffin was hired from Florida Atlantic to lead the program after the firing of Matt Luke, who was later brought on as the associate head coach and offensive line coach at Georgia. Luke amassed a 15-21 record while filling the top job in Oxford.
