Ole Miss made the hiring of Jacob Peeler official Wednesday. Peeler, who coached at Cal the last four seasons, replaces Matt Lubick who accepted a position at Baylor.

Hugh Freeze expressed excitement in bringing Peeler back to the Magnolia State.

“Jacob has quickly developed a reputation as an elite recruiter and an outstanding offensive coach who relates well to his players,” Freeze said in a school release. “He is Mississippi born and bred and should be able to hit the ground running as we continue to elevate our program.”

The Rebels first had a wide receivers coaching vacancy when Grant Heard left to take the same position at Indiana. Freeze hired Matt Lubick for the position last month, but Lubick left after 11 days to take the offensive coordinator job at Baylor.

Peeler was the No. 20 recruiter of the 2016 cycle in the 247Sports Composite rankings.
