Ole Miss flipped a key quarterback prospect on Saturday away from Florida. The move also adds another piece to the 2023 recruiting class after a reclassification.

The player is Austin Simmons, a 6-foot-2.5 and 180-pound QB from South Florida. Simmons originally committed to the Gators in April but flipped his commitment and announced his commitment to Lane Kiffin’s program Saturday.

Simmons was originally a member of the 2025 recruiting class but revealed he will reclassify to the 2023 recruiting class and enroll this summer. The 247 Sports Composite had not yet released ratings for 2025, but 247 Sports rates Simmons as a 4-star recruit.

“…I will be flipping my commitment and taking my talents to the University of Mississippi,” Simmons wrote in his announcement. “Also after long conversations with my family and mentors, I have decided to reclassify to the class of 2023. I can’t wait to see what my future holds!

“To Coach Kiffin and the rest of the coaching staff, thank you for giving me this opportunity to bring a national championship to Oxford!”

Ole Miss added a pair of transfer portal QBs this offseason in Spencer Sanders (Oklahoma State) and Walker Howard (LSU), but the Rebels did not previously sign a high school QB in the cycle. It will be interesting to see what the plan is for Simmons early in his career after reclassifying from the class of 2025.
