Ole Miss lands commitment from transferring Jackson State forward, 3-time SWAC defensive player of the year
Ole Miss is entering a pivotal 2022-23 season under coach Kermit Davis, who will enter the year on the hot seat.
But, on Monday night, the Rebels added a key piece to their roster for next year. And, they didn’t have to go far to get him.
As you can see below, forward Jayveous McKinnis of Jackson State announced via Twitter that he was committing to the Rebels:
I’m honored by the coaches who’ve reached out and shown interest in me while in the transfer portal. It wasn’t a easy decision, but I’ve decided to verbally commit to Coach Kermit Davis and the Ole Miss Rebels. I look forward to helping the rebels take over the SEC. ??? pic.twitter.com/ww32P5UTZe

McKinnis appeared in 27 games for the Tigers this past season, starting 26 of them. He averaged 12.4 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.9 blocks and 1.1 steals per contest.
He has been named the SWAC’s Defensive Player of the Year each of the past 3 seasons. He has a chance to be an immediate impact player for the Rebels.
