Lane Kiffin will be hard at work developing his first staff at Ole Miss since being confirmed as the Rebels’ head coach on Saturday.

Whatever his new staff looks like, it won’t include offensive coordinator Rich Rodriguez, according to Sports Illustrated college football writer Ross Dellinger.

Rodriguez was hired before the 2019 season following head coaching stops at West Virginia, Michigan and Arizona. He presided over an offense that averaged 251.3 yard per game rushing, 2nd in the SEC and 11th in the FBS. However, the Rebels only averaged 26.6 points a game, ranking eighth in the conference and 83rd nationally.

The news comes as reports have circulated that Kendal Briles, the offensive coordinator at Florida State under now-fired head coach Willie Taggart, could join Kiffin’s staff in Oxford. It would reunite the two men as Briles served as associate head coach under Kiffin at FAU for one season in 2017.

However, the same reports claim that Briles is being considered returning to FAU, but as Kiffin’s successor. If Briles does move from Tallahassee, it would be his fifth job in as many years.
