Ole Miss appears to be looking to the NCAA transfer portal in an effort to boost its defensive front.

According to David Johnson of 247Sports.com, the Rebels have extended an offer to Jayson Jones, a former Oregon defensive lineman who entered the transfer portal on Wednesday. Jones spent the past 2 seasons playing for the Ducks.

This isn’t the 1st time that Ole Miss has tried to get Jones to come to Oxford. He received an offer from the Rebels when he was a 4-star recruit coming out of Calera (Ala.) High School during the 2020 recruiting cycle.

Jones was once committed to Alabama, but he flipped and signed with Oregon on National Signing Day in 2020. He didn’t play in his 1st year with the Ducks, but he had 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks while playing all 13 games during the 2021 season.

Because the NCAA granted all players an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jones has 3 years of eligibility remaining and can still use his redshirt season.

If Ole Miss is successful in recruiting Jones this time, he’ll provide a solid boost to its defensive line heading into the 2022 season.
