In addition to two new coordinators, all eyes are on Ole Miss QB Matt Corral.

Corral had a nice day Saturday in the Grove Bowl, and he looks to be the right fit for Rich Rodriguez’s offense in Oxford. He has plenty of arm strength to make all the throws, and he can add an element in the running game, too.

The redshirt freshmen spoke to reporters following Saturday’s performance, and he detailed his progress this spring in the Rebels offense.

“I feel like I’m right where I need to be, but there is always that little voice in my head saying I can do much more, I can do better,” said Corral. “Like today, there were like three plays I wish I could take back, personally, for myself. Those little things that weigh heavy on me. Just because I know for a fact I’m not supposed to do them. I didn’t do enough reps of it; so, I’ve just got to keep on doing more of those.”

Corral then went into details regarding Rich Rod’s offense and how he and his teammates have adapted to it.

“I’m comfortable. Rich Rod does a great job of coaching it and teaching it, on and off the field. It’s just getting our receivers on the outside to click, knowing every conversion that they have on each route, knowing what the defense is doing, knowing their own job and responsibilities,” Corral said. “This offense is me saying the whole thing. The O-line doesn’t even know what’s going on until I tell them the play. It’s just being able to mesh all those things together to make it a smooth transition into one single play. Once we get on that same page, I feel like there’s no stopping us. I think that’s the little hump we’re at right now. It’s that battle up the steep hill.”

It’s a new era with Corral at QB for the Rebels, but he looks more than capable of leading a big-time offensive attack.
