It’s official, Ole Miss has pushed back the start date of the Lane Kiffin era in Oxford.

Rebel fans shouldn’t be concerned, however, as the 2020 season opener against Baylor is only being pushed back a day, from Saturday, Sept. 5 to Sunday, Sept. 6. The game is still scheduled to be played in Houston’s NRG Stadium.

Ole Miss made the news official on Monday.

The kickoff time for the game has yet to be determined but pushing the game’s date by a day will allow for Ole Miss to open the season in primetime before the NFL season begins.

Here is a statement from AD Keith Carter following the news:

“As preparations continue in hopes of starting the 2020 athletics season as scheduled, we are excited to see Ole Miss showcased on this national stage as our football program begins a new era under Coach Kiffin’s leadership. With decisions and planning surrounding the college football season ongoing, we hope the Ole Miss family is able to make their plans to join us in Houston, particularly our large family of Texas Rebels.”

The 2020 season opener between Ole Miss and Baylor features the coaching matchup of Kiffin’s offense against Dave Aranda’s defense. Considering the battles those two had during their respective years at Alabama and LSU, we are all in for a treat come Sunday, Sept. 6.
