Ole Miss is set to play Baylor in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day.

But, with COVID-19 having an impact on a handful of teams preparing for bowl games already this week, the Rebels are adjusting some plans.

Per a statement obtained by 247Sports, Ole Miss has delayed its planned departure for New Orleans and is still finalizing dates on that front:

“After reviewing the new policies for bowl activities, the team schedule has been adjusted to ensure the safest possible experience for the student-athletes and staff. Bowl week practices will begin in Oxford with the team’s arrival in New Orleans rescheduled from the 26th to later in the week. That date and other travel details are still being finalized. In addition, while our program is in a good place from a health standpoint, our medical staff will continue to monitor our team to guard against concerns related to COVID-19.”

That statement doesn’t address any COVID issues the Rebels currently face, but 247Sports has confirmed that Ole Miss has some positive cases currently:

Inside the Rebels can confirm there have been new, positive cases of COVID-19 within the Ole Miss football program, though the statement did not acknowledge such.

We’ll see how this impacts the Sugar Bowl, but hopefully the game can still be played as scheduled on New Year’s Day.
