It’s a good week to be an Ole Miss Rebel.

First, the Rebels took down Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl, crushing MSU’s title hopes while earning their ninth win of the year. Next, they came to an agreement with head coach Hugh Freeze to keep him in Oxford beyond this season.

But some of the best news of all came Tuesday night, when Ole Miss discovered it was ranked No. 12 in this week’s College Football Playoff Top 25. The Rebels’ top-12 ranking keeps them within striking distance of reaching a New Year’s Six bowl, which would earn Ole Miss a hefty payday and plenty of national exposure to end the season.

The Rebels rose seven spots in this week’s rankings, marking the greatest rise of any team in the nation following Week 14.

Ole Miss is one of seven SEC teams ranked in this week’s CFP Top 25, and one of three teams from the conference ranked in the top 12.

Alabama remained the selection committee’s No. 1 team following a thrilling 55-44 win over Auburn in the Iron Bowl, while Mississippi State fell out of the CFP’s top 4 and dropped all the way to No. 10 in this week’s rankings.

Undefeated Florida State fell from No. 3 to No. 4, and TCU replaced Mississippi State in the top 4 at No. 3. Oregon maintained its spot at No. 2.

No. 14 Georgia, No. 16 Missouri, No. 19 Auburn and No. 24 LSU were the other SEC teams included in this week’s rankings.
