Ole Miss is off and running at the Hattiesburg Super Regional, rolling to a blowout win over Southern Miss Saturday evening.

The Rebels opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the 3rd and another run in the 4th. However, the game really swung open during the 5th and 6th innings.

In the bottom of the 5th, Southern Miss loaded the bases with 2 outs and had a chance to get to Dylan DeLucia. Reece Ewing also drilled a deep fly ball that would have been a go-ahead grand slam but drifted just foul at the pole.

Ewing quickly struck out to end the scoring threat. DeLucia was also able to keep his shutout bid going.

In the top of the 6th, Ole Miss piled on in a hurry with 7 runs on 5 hits. Tim Elko and Kevin Graham each had a 2-run double as the Rebels increased the lead to 10-0.

On the mound, DeLucia shined with 5.2 innings of shutout ball with 9 strikeouts. Jack Dougherty completed the shutout with 3.1 innings pitched without allowing a walk or a hit.

Elko led the way offensively with 3 RBI on the afternoon. Justin Bench, Jacob Gonzalez and Peyton Chatagnier all had 2 runs scored in the win.

Ole Miss will enter Sunday looking for one win in two chances to advance to the College World Series. Sunday’s Game 2 is scheduled for a first pitch at 4 pm ET on ESPNU.
