Ole Miss and Memphis are playing for the first time since 2009, and it took less than five minutes for things to get chippy between the two teams in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

After Ole Miss scored a touchdown on its second drive of the game, it kicked off to Memphis returner Joe Craig, who returned the ball close to his own 20 yard line. Craig was pulled down by an Ole Miss defender, and his knee just barely grazed the field, ending the play at that spot.

However, Craig continued running until a whistle was blown, and Ole Miss’ Keith Lewis took it as an opportunity to fly in and flip Craig on a ferocious tackle after the play. That hit ignited a fight between players from both teams, and punches were eventually thrown.

Of all the players involved in the brawl, it was Ole Miss place kicker Gary Wunderlich who was ejected from the game for fighting, and only Lewis received a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct. Ole Miss followed up the fight by forcing Memphis into a three-and-out, but it’ll be without its top place kicker for the rest of the game.
