The 2018 season opener for Ole Miss may not be as daunting as it appeared last week, as four Texas Tech players were arrested over the weekend in Lubbock, Texas.

Among the arrests was potential Tech starting quarterback Jett Duffey. Receiver Desmon Smith, linebacker Christian Malik-Shakur Taylor (yes, that’s one player), and receiver Quan Shorts were also arrested by Lubbock police. According to Domingo Ramirez Jr. of the Star-Telegram, Smith was bitten by a police K-9 during the incident and had to be sent to the hospital.

Their arrests came outside a local nightclub following the arrest of a suspect following an act of vandalism early Sunday morning. Following the suspect’s arrest, the gathered crowd became “aggressive” according to police. Following the aggression, the four Texas Tech players were arrested. Six others were also arrested.

Duffey was charged with criminal mischief and is accused of damage to a nearby apartment complex. Taylor is accused of smashing a car windshield.

Texas Tech has not announced any form of punishment for any of the players at this time. Ole Miss and Texas Tech will meet Saturday, Sept. 1 in Houston’s NRG Stadium.
