ESPN’s Outside the Lines is reporting that sources at Ole Miss have confirmed the conversations leaked on former OT Laremy Tunsil’s Instagram account did take place last year.

Mark Schlabach and Nicole Noren report that the conversations are from the spring semester of 2015, and the school is trying to determine if the images posted were altered screenshots:

Ole Miss officials have determined that a text message conversation that was published to Miami Dolphins rookie Laremy Tunsil’s Instagram account during the NFL draft did happen last year, sources told ESPN’s Outside the Lines, but the school is still looking into whether the messages were altered before they were published.

In the conversations, which allegedly occurred in February and April 2015, Tunsil asked Ole Miss assistant athletic director John Miller for money to pay rent and his mother’s $305 utility bill. Miller responds to Tunsil’s request by replying, “See Barney next week,” an apparent reference to Ole Miss assistant athletic director for high school and junior college relations Barney Farrar.

The conversations, which show Tunsil requesting money from an Ole Miss staffer, were posted immediately after Tunsil was selected by the Dolphins. Tunsil’s social media accounts were hacked, with a video of him using a gas mask bong being posted on his Twitter account prior to the draft, causing him to drop to pick No. 13. Miami believes a former financial advisor was the culprit behind the social media hacks.

After the incident, Ole Miss released a statement saying it would comply with any NCAA requests on the matter. Tunsil’s attorney also said that the NCAA is familiar with the conversations.

Tunsil and his former coach, Hugh Freeze, were linked in the headlines Wednesday when it was reported that Freeze has requested his deposition be sealed in the lawsuit between Tunsil and his stepfather, Lindsey Miller.
