Sean McDonough rips Ole Miss for fake injury: 'Fortunately (he) survived to walk off the field'
Sean McDonough saw it with his own eyes, and he called it out on national TV.
The ABC announcer saw Ole Miss running back Matt Jones just blatantly fall down before a play during the 2nd quarter of the Rebels’ game against Kentucky on Saturday afternoon in Oxford.

Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart can be seen telling Jones to just fall down before a timeout. Dart motions to Jones with his finger to fall down on the field, and Jones does exactly that, falling to the field as if an invisible tackler for Kentucky just took him down. But that wasn’t the case, and Jones falls to the turf, seeming to fake an injury.
McDonough, seeing exactly what happened, wasn’t afraid to call the Rebels out for faking an injury.
“Fortunately, Matt Jones survived to walk off the field. Just a blatant fake injury,” cracked McDonough.
Sean McDonough on Ole Miss player: "Fortunately Matt Jones survived to walk off the field. Just a blatant fake injury."
Announcers are calling these out more.

McDonough even went on to question if what the No. 6 Rebels had just done was legal. He also correctly commented that you don’t see what happened very often.
While Ole Miss was dealing with the backlash from its fake injury, it was struggling on the field, too. The Rebels allowed a touchdown late in the 2nd quarter and trail the Wildcats 10-7 at halftime of their SEC opener.
Unfortunately this is going to become more frequent.
Especially against teams that use hurry up offense.
I don’t know how the NCAA would implement rules to stop this, how can you how can you prioritize player health but penalize them for an obviously fake injury?
Yeah, that balance is also what concerns me. We don’t want players trying to keep playing when they are injured.
I’ve thought about this before and I’m not sure what can be done that would be both effective and not easily worked around. If obvious like this making it unsportsmanlike conduct wouldn’t be unreasonable.
Somewhat ironic it’s the Ole Miss offense doing this.
Yeah, agreed. But it seemed like Dart had magic laser fingers.
They should be sent to THE OPPOSING locker room for a complete and thorough evaluation.
What was the context of this (not able to watch game)? Why on offense? Play clock issue?
Honestly, Im watching and also not sure why to do it. Im assuming a free time out.
Free time out seems to be it.
I believe after the wake forest I had a discussion with someone on this site about fake injuries. They said it didn’t and wasn’t happening.
Where you at GROVER….LOL
Best way to orotect players and the integrity of the game is to have any player injury that causes a stoppage in the game must sit out until a change of possession occurs. This makes them get properly evaluated and makes the penalty more than just one play.
Agreed.
Ole Miss blatantly fakes injuries. But, and I hate to say this, Kiffin always complained about opposing defenses faking injuries to slow down the Ole Miss offense, and the SEC and NCAA did nothing about it. So, guess what? Now Ole Miss does it all over the field.
