The SEC coaching carousel was busy in 2019. Arkansas, Mississippi State, Missouri and Ole Miss all have new head coaches heading into the 2020 season.

Which coach will have the best Year 1 makes for a fun preseason topic. On Saturday, SEC Network analyst Jordan Rodgers shared why he thinks it will be Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin.

“Lane has the most pieces in place on that offense,” Rodgers said on SEC Nation, per Riley Gates of 247Sports. “You have a dynamic quarterback, if it’s going to be John Rhys Plumlee which it should be, but also Matt Corral is capable. Two running backs that were true freshmen last year in Jerrion Ealy and Snoop Conner that were absolutely dynamic athletes as well. You have a core group of talent that put up 37 points last year against LSU, put up 31 against Alabama.

“I think Lane Kiffin has a track record of turning running quarterbacks into capable throws. He did it with Blake Sims at Alabama, did it with Jalen Hurts. He can do it with John Rhys Plumlee. But at some point, they have to take the training wheels off … Lane Kiffin can get this offense to a place where they can knock off a powerhouse because they can put up points.”

Kiffin faces a tall test to begin his Ole Miss tenure. The Rebels host No. 5 Florida to open the 2020 season on Sept. 26. The game is set for an 11 a.m. CT kickoff, airing on ESPN.
