Auburn and Texas A&M will face off in College Station on Saturday afternoon in a game that has serious implications for both teams.

Auburn (6-2, 4-1) is the highest-rated two-loss team in the country, checking in at No. 14 in the first 2017 College Football Playoff rankings.

Kevin Sumlin’s Aggies are coming off a disappointing loss to Mississippi State, while Gus Malzahn’s Tigers had a bye last weekend.

Therefore, the SEC  West showdown is important for both sides. Auburn is trying to stay on Alabama’s tail with the Iron Bowl still three weeks away. Sumlin and the Aggies (5-3, 3-2) need something to build on if they’re going to avoid yet another 8-5 finish.

Here are 10 bold predictions for the game:

1. Kerryon Johnson will score multiple TDs

Johnson started the SEC season on a tear, scoring five touchdowns against Mizzou and three each in games against Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

Two weeks ago, Pettway got in the mix, finding paydirt three times against Arkansas. But he is out for a while with a fractured scapula.

Now that Johnson will be in the featured back role again, he’ll pick up where he left off a few weeks ago and be unstoppable near the goal line.

2. Stidham will throw more picks than TDs

The Aggies don’t have the best pass defense by any means, but they do have an opportunistic secondary led by star safety Armani Watts.

Meanwhile, throwing touchdowns isn’t a big part of Stidham’s game, as the running backs (see above) handle most of the work near the goal line.

Therefore, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Stidham finish with no touchdowns and a pick or throw for one score and two interceptions.

3. Auburn defense will sack Mond 5 or more times

Though true freshman QB Kellen Mond has played well for the Aggies this year, he does sometimes make mistakes that you’d expect from a freshman.

Through eight games, he’s taken 17 sacks, and most of those have come against defenses that didn’t have the pass rush capabilities Auburn does.

Therefore, it could be a long day for Mond if he tries to stay in the pocket.

4. Stidham will take some lumps, too

Stidham was sacked an incredible 11 times in a Week 2 loss at Clemson and has gone down an SEC-leading 21 times this year.

Meanwhile, the A&M defense hasn’t missed a beat without star DE Myles Garrett and currently has three players with 4.5 or more sacks.

Look for Saturday’s game to get ugly on both sides when the quarterbacks drop back to pass.

5. Ryan Davis will have at least 10 catches

With 41 catches on the season, Davis is tied for the SEC lead in receptions with Alabama’s Calvin Ridley and Ole Miss’s A.J. Brown.

The Auburn junior has only 381 yards (compared to 523 for Ridley and 765 for Brown), as he does most of his work over the middle.

However, against a less-than-stellar Aggies’ secondary, Davis should have plenty of room to get open, and we know Stidham likes to look his way in big situations.

6. Williams, Ford combine for less than 100 yards

The Aggies’ top two backs have had some great games this year, but both are struggling right now.

In fact, in the Aggies’ previous three games, they’ve gone for less than 60 yards combined each time — which helps explain why A&M is 1-2 in that stretch.

Against Auburn’s stout defense, don’t expect that to change.

7. Kirk will score a special-teams touchdown

The Tigers gave up a long kickoff return touchdown against Arkansas a couple of weeks ago, throwing a damper on the trick-play touchdown they’d scored only moments before.

Kirk, one of the best kick and punt returners in the country, will have some chances to make a big play and will likely take advantage of it.

8. Game within one possession entering fourth quarter

Though the Aggies just got blown out at home against Mississippi State last weekend, they’ll bounce back nicely against an Auburn team that faces a lot of pressure.

Auburn is the better team on paper, but the Aggies will be fired up to try to avoid a three-game home losing streak and will keep the score close.

9. Kickers will steal the show

There are a lot of bad college kickers, but Auburn and Texas A&M have some of the best in the country, with Daniel Carlson handling the kicking for the Tigers and Daniel LaCamera doing the same for the Aggies.

Between them, Carlson and LaCamera have only missed six of 35 field-goal attempts.

If Saturday’s game stays close (as many SEC West games do), the kickers could end up deciding the outcome.

10. Losing coach will get fired at end of year

We’ll have to wait to see if this prediction comes true, but both Malzahn and Sumlin are on the hot seat heading into the Week 10 showdown.

A loss for Auburn could make it difficult for the Tigers to avoid a 7-5 season, while a loss for Texas A&M would signal another potential Aggies collapse in November.
