Top offensive 2017 prospects in every SEC state
Who are the No. 1 overall prospects on offense in each state within the Southeastern Conference’s geographic recruiting footprint for the 2017 cycle?
Here they are below according to the recruiting industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings.
Alabama: Nico Collins, WR, Clay-Chalkville
The 6-foot-5, 190-pound Collins has the size and speed to be elite. In-state Alabama is considered the early team to watch in his recruitment.
Arkansas: Taylor Powell, QB, Fayetteville
There’s a lot that the 6-foot-1, 200-pound Powell does right. He has a good arm and mobility, even if he’s not the tallest signal caller out there. The hometown Razorbacks can get him if they push.
Florida: Calvin Ashley, OT, Orlando First Academy
Ashley is a massive human being that can move, which means the 6-foot-6, 305-pounder has the chance to be special with the right development. He has been committed to Auburn for quite some time and remains firm.
Georgia: Jake Fromm, QB, Warner-Robins Houston County
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Fromm, who is committed to Alabama, had a big junior season and saw his stock ascend as a result. Fromm is a great athlete with a big arm.
Kentucky: Jedrick Willis, OT, Lexington Lafayette
The 6-foot-6, 305-pound Willis is yet another talented offensive lineman to come out of this school as we all remember Landon Young in the last cycle. Kentucky kept Young at home and the Cats are in good shape to do the same with Willis.
Louisiana: Devonta Smith, WR, Amite
Smith has the speed and quickness to burn opposing defenses. He needs to fill out his frame and get stronger, but that will happen. Early on, Alabama appears to be trending here.
Mississippi: Cam Akers, RB, Clinton (Miss.)
Akers is an outstanding blend of speed and power and has exceptional balance. He currently is committed to Alabama, but the in-state programs, Ole Miss in particular, are not going to stop trying to change his mind.
Missouri: Daron Davis, ATH, Kansas City Hogan Prep
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Davis could project on either side of the ball, but he plays running back at the high school level, so list him as the state’s top offensive prospect. He’s a big early commit for Missouri.
South Carolina: OrTre Smith, WR, Mount Pleasant Wando
Smith has elite size at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds and can flat-out go up and get the ball. Clemson is the team to beat, but the Tigers are in on a lot of receivers. South Carolina is in the thick of it as well and has made Smith a big priority.
Tennessee: Tee Higgins, WR, Oak Ridge
Higgins is a lot like Collins from Alabama- he’s 6-foot-5, fast and can go up and make amazing catches. The Vols were the early local favorite and he committed early, but he has since backed out and Clemson is making a hard charge.
Texas: Jack Anderson, OG, Frisco
Anderson is one of the country’s best guards for the 2017 cycle and committed early to Texas Tech. He’s a mauler.
