Thirty-two players had their dreams come true Friday night by becoming first-round selections; however, for five other players who attended the NFL Draft, they’ll have to wait until Friday night.

Four of those five were SEC players: LSU’s Greedy Williams, Florida’s Jawaan Taylor, Ole Miss’ D.K. Metcalf and Missouri’s Drew Lock. The other was former Oklahoma OL Cody Ford.

All four of those SEC players had been projected as first-round picks, but as we’ve seen time and time again, sometimes those plans don’t work out.

The biggest surprise of the bunch is Florida OT Jawaan Taylor. Taylor had been projected as high as No. 5 overall before his free fall began. Only one other OT was taken in the first round in Alabama’s Jonah Williams.

It’s also surprising that Drew Lock wasn’t a first-round pick. Three other QBs were taken in the first round, including Duke’s Daniel Jones at No. 6 overall to the New York Giants. OU’s Kyler Murray was taken No. 1 by the Cardinals and Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins No. 15 by the Redskins.

D.K. Metcalf’s stock soared immediately after his ridiculous NFL Combine, but he wasn’t picked Thursday night. Two other WRs were drafted in the first round in Oklahoma’s Marquise Brown (No. 25 to Ravens) and Arizona State’s N’Keal Harry (No. 32 to Patriots).

The first round saw only one CB drafted in Georgia’s Deandre Baker (No. 30 to Giants). That could have easily been LSU’s Greedy Williams, who may be the best overall CB in the draft. Now, he’ll have a chip on his shoulder.

All five players should hear their names called early in the second round Friday night.
