You can anticipate that there will be several big recruiting battles to watch around the Southeastern Conference as we head toward National Signing Day on Feb. 3 — likely more than are listed here — but these are the five eye-grabbers right now.

Derrick Brown (Georgia vs. Auburn and the field)

The five-star defensive tackle from Buford (Ga.) Lanier has long been considered a lean to Georgia, but Auburn is in the mix, too. Those are considered the two frontrunners and he’s scheduled to visit the Tigers on the weekend of Jan. 15 and the Bulldogs on the weekend of Jan. 22. Tennessee is scheduled to get a visit on the weekend of Jan. 29 and could emerge as a factor and he’s already visited Alabama and Mississippi State.

Lydell Mack Wilson (Alabama vs. Georgia and Florida)

Wilson, a five-star linebacker from Montgomery (Ala.) Carver, was long considered a lean to the Crimson Tide prior to Kirby Smart taking the head coaching job at Georgia. The Bulldogs, along with Florida, are in the mix and now the nation’s top-ranked outside linebacker will visit Athens (Jan. 15), Tuscaloosa (Jan. 22) and Gainesville (Jan. 29) officially down the stretch.

Demetris Robertson (Alabama vs. Georgia vs. Notre Dame/Stanford)

Robertson, the four-star athlete from Savannah (Ga.) Christian Prep, was committed to the Crimson Tide at one point, then appeared Georgia-bound. Now, it’s a four-way battle with the Bulldogs and Bama, along with Notre Dame and Stanford. Academics are a big part of this decision and certainly heading to South Bend or Palo Alto is a realistic possibility, but Nick Saban and Kirby Smart both have been recruiting Robertson for a long time.

Jeffery Simmons (Ole Miss vs. Mississippi State vs. Alabama)

It will be a three-way SEC battle for Simmons, the top overall prospect in the state of Mississippi and a four-star, U.S. Army All-American. The Rebels, Bulldogs and Crimson Tide all have a shot here. Some believe that it will come down to Alabama or Ole Miss at the end of the day. The belief here is that the Bulldogs will have a final push in them and it could go a number of directions. If Simmons leaves the state, it’s significant. The top-ranked prospect in Mississippi has not left the state since the 2010 cycle when offensive tackle Shon Coleman signed with Auburn.

Nigel Warrior (Tennessee vs. Alabama and the field)

The four-star safety from Suwanee (Ga.) Peachtree Ridge High is the son of former Vols standout Dale Carter and thus Tennessee is in strong position to land him. Warrior plans to officially visit LSU on Jan. 15, then will trip to Tuscaloosa (Jan. 22) and Knoxville (Jan. 29) officially. Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide have really come on strong here and made this interesting. Butch Jones and staff have been outstanding at keeping Vols legacies in the fold. There’s also the chance for an outlier like a Georgia or South Carolina (new staffs) to emerge, but it would be very surprising if he did not end up in Knoxville or Tuscaloosa next season.
