5 SEC teams among FBS squads with longest active streaks of appearing in AP Poll entering 2019 season
The SEC has been the most-dominant conference in college football in recent years, even as Clemson has emerged as a major threat to Alabama’s dynasty.
This year will be a big one for coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide, but the Tide still have one impressive record going for them.
College football guru Phil Steele broke down which teams have the longest streaks of appearing in the AP top-25 poll, and the Tide have everyone beaten by a wide margin:
Longest Active streak of weeks appearing in AP Poll
1. Alabama 179
2. Ohio State 114
3. Clemson 68
4. Oklahoma 43
5. Penn State 40
6. Georgia 32
7. Notre Dame 28
8. UCF 27
9. LSU 21
10. Michigan/West Virginia 16
12. Texas/Kentucky 12
14. Florida 11— Phil Steele (@philsteele042) July 29, 2019
That’s an impressive streak. Those 179 weeks are a long, long time. Not even Clemson can match that.
The Tide are sure to enter 2019 in the poll, so the streak will likely continue throughout the 2019 season based on the amount of talent the team has returning this fall.
How many of those other SEC teams will continue their streaks all year? We’ll have fun watching them try this fall.
