As coaches are busy on the recruiting trail during the NCAA’s active period, and with National Signing Day just over two months away, Saturday Down South looked at the top five uncommitted targets with offers from SEC schools.
1. Martez Ivey, Apopka, Fla.
- Offers: Florida, Auburn, LSU, Alabama, Clemson
- National Rank: No. 1 overall prospect
- The Skinny: Ivey is a coveted offensive tackle prospect at 6-foot-6, 270 pounds. The Apopka, Fla., native is a skilled run and pass blocker, and possesses good speed. Florida was believed to be the favorite, but now that former head coach Will Muschamp has been dismissed, Auburn has gained ground in the race to land the nation’s top recruit.
2. Iman Marshall, Long Beach, Calif.
- Offers: USC, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame
- National Rank: No. 3 overall prospect
- The Skinny: Marshall is a five-star cornerback prospect, the nation’s top at his position. At 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, Marshall boasts great measurables and is speedy on the outside. He needs to improve as a tackler, but his instincts and ball skills make Marshall an impact player early. USC looks to be the favorite for the Southern California native, however LSU is more in the picture now.
3. Byron Cowart, Seffner, Fla.
- Offers: Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Maryland, Arkansas
- National Rank: No. 4 overall prospect
- The Skinny: At 6-foot-4, 250 pounds and a 4.6 40-yard dash, Cowart is an imposing force coming off the edge at defensive end. The five-star prospect possesses a great first step, is quick with his hands and strong at the point of attack. Florida is the frontrunner as of now, though Florida State and Alabama aren’t out of the picture.
4. CeCe Jefferson, Glen Saint Mary, Fla.
- Offers: Florida, Cincinnati, Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida State
- National Rank: No. 5 overall prospect
- The Skinny: Jefferson is another sizable defensive end from Baker County. Though undersized, the five-star recruit boasts incredible athleticism and pursuit on the strong-side. The Gators are pacing the race to land Jefferson, though he’s taken official visits to Ole Miss and Alabama, both of whom are thought to have gained ground.
5. Josh Sweat, Chesapeake, Va.
- Offers: Virginia Tech, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon
- National Rank: No. 6 overall prospect
- The Skinny: Though he’s not the top recruit in the country, Sweat is perhaps the most college-ready. At 6-foot-5, 240 pounds and a 4.5 in the 40-yard dash, Sweat overpowers offensive linemen from his weak-side defensive end position. ACC powers Virginia Tech and Florida State are thought to be out front for the prized defensive lineman, though Sweat took an official visit to Georgia on Nov. 15, the night Jeremy Pruitt’s defense shut down Auburn. As a result, Sweat has moved the Bulldogs up his list of candidates.
