The World Wide Leader says Kentucky is a top-10 team.

That’s one of the most interesting takeaways from ESPN’s top 25 power rankings updated after the Week 9 action.

When it comes to the Wildcats, ESPN’s Chris Low is higher than the voters in the Coaches Poll or the AP Top 25, which rank UK at Nos. 12 and 11, respectively.

While every team, including Kentucky, likes to see themselves ranked as high as possible, the most important rankings will come Tuesday from the College Football Playoff selection committee.

Mark Stoops will obviously want his team more focused on the task at hand than where the Wildcats are ranked. Considering the next opponent is Georgia, with a spot in the SEC Championship Game at stake, he shouldn’t have any trouble.

It’s no surprise to see Alabama, LSU and Georgia above Kentucky in the ESPN power rankings. UGA’s ranking (No. 7) is lower than in other polls, but as discussed above, it’s all about what the committee says on Tuesday.

The other three top 25 teams according to ESPN are No. 14 Florida, No. 20 Mississippi State and No. 21 Texas A&M.

  • No. 1 – Alabama
  • No. 4 – LSU
  • No. 7 – Georgia
  • No. 10 – Kentucky
  • No. 14 – Florida
  • No. 20 – Mississippi State
  • No.21 – Texas A&M
