8 SEC teams fall in Top 25 of ESPN's historically important programs
The SEC is widely considered the most dominant college football conference since the turn of the century. Turns out the league has been that way for a long time.
A panel of 12 ESPN writers ranked every current FBS program based on historical importance, placing eight SEC teams in the Top 25, the most from any conference. The voters ranked all 128 teams on a scale of 1-10 to determine the standings.
Alabama received a perfect score and was the only league school to be tabbed as a blue blood, one of eight programs the panel considered “the royalty of the game.” Overall, Alabama was listed tied for first with Notre Dame. LSU finished as the first team outside the blue blood category with a composite score of 9.33.
The lowest ranking for an SEC school was Vanderbilt at No. 79. Below is a complete list of where each conference team fell on ESPN’s rankings, along with the squad’s composite score.
