ACC team announces late change to 2019 schedule
If you follow college football scheduling, you know that most games are scheduled, and announced, years in advance. One Power 5 team, however, now has a vacancy to fill on its 2019 schedule.
Virginia Tech announced Saturday that it will no longer play at East Carolina in 2019, 2023 and 2025. Virginia Tech director of athletics Whit Babcock indicated that one reason for the 2019 cancellation is for Sept. 21, 2019 to be a home game for the Hokies (getting the number up to seven on the season) instead of a road trip.
For any SEC fans hoping to see their team play in Lane Stadium next fall, don’t hold your breath. The Week 4 four SEC schedule currently features five conference games along with four other teams hosting non-conference opponents: Notre Dame at Georgia, Southern Miss at Alabama, Cal at Ole Miss and San Jose State at Arkansas.
And for anyone thinking this could be an opportunity for UCF, the Knights are actually already scheduled to face an ACC team, Pittsburgh, on that date.
