College football is entering a year chock-full of experienced and talented runners but one name often left off the list of the nation’s best running backs is Tennessee junior Jalen Hurd. Sitting only 891 rushing yards away from Tennessee’s 119-year-old career rushing record of 3,078 yards, Hurd is in a good position to place his name atop the school’s record books in 2016.

Not only are Hurd’s career accomplishments impressive but take a look at his advanced stats compared to LSU’s junior running back Leonard Fournette:

The two are eerily similar in those three areas. However, one category that Fournette has a clear advantage over Hurd is in long runs. Fournette often breaks big time runs, including multiple carries of over 70 yards and going over 85 yards on individual runs in both his freshman and sophomore seasons. As for Hurd, he’s never had a run longer than 37 yards in his Tennessee career.

That’s an area Hurd has focused on this offseason, working on his burst and overall speed and quickness:

Should he accomplish his goals and bust a few big runs in 2016, Hurd should position himself nicely to be mentioned more often with the nation’s elite running backs by the conclusion of the season.
