The son of former Alabama football player Reggie Grimes is the No. 1 recruit in the state of Tennessee on the 247Sports Composite, so it’s no surprise to see that he’s giving strong consideration to playing in the SEC.

In April, the 4-star defensive end (6-5, 240 pounds) out of Brentwood, Tennessee named a top six of Alabama, Florida State, LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt. Grimes recently told Ryan Wright of Recruiting News Guru that he has trimmed that list down to five.

“LSU has dropped out,” Grimes said.

For many football fans, it’s hard to wrap their heads around a team passing on a top-40 recruit (No. 39 overall nationally on the Composite), but the Tigers already have 22 players committed for their 2020 class and are reportedly low on spots remaining in the class.

Grimes told Wright that he does not plan on releasing any more lists between now and his commitment, making Alabama, Florida State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt the final five.

“I am looking at who has the brightest future for me as far as I am concerned,” Grimes told Wright. “I am looking at playing time and being developed once I am there. I am looking at the players there, winning games, and stuff like that. On the academic side, I am looking at which school can set me up best for life after football.”
