At an average price of $280, tickets to the nationally televised Ole Miss-Alabama game Saturday are going for $74 more than the next most expensive game in Oxford over the last four years.  While our data at TiqIQ only goes back four years, it’s also likely that it will end up being the most expensive Ole Miss Football tickets ever in Oxford.  The record for attendance at Vaught Hemmingway Stadium is 62,657, which was for a 2009 game when the 20th-ranked Rebels welcomed in Alabama to Oxford. While Ole Miss lost that game 22-3, they did go on to finish as 20th in the AP and to win the Cotton Bowl.

After their Cotton Bowl win in 2009, Rebel fans surely felt that the next golden age of Ole Miss football was upon them.   Amidst high expectations, 2010 started disastrously with a loss to Jacksonville State, and ended with a 4-8 record.  Ole Miss has only won one SEC championship in their history, and if they’re going to get another one this season, beating Alabama Sunday would be a necessary step.   After Alabama, however, the Ole Miss schedule doesn’t get a lot easier, with games against LSU and Auburn still to come.

Currently, the Auburn game has an average price of $163, which is good for the fifth most expensive Ole Miss ticket in the last five years.  In addition that that game, the Rebels have to travel to Death Valley to play LSU at the end of October.  At an average price of $237, it’s the second most expensive average for LSU Football tickets this season, behind only the LSU vs. Alabama game on November 8th.   The LSU game will be the 102nd meeting between the two teams, and while LSU leads the series by a count of 58-40-4, Ole Miss won last year, upsetting the sixth-ranked LSU. If they’re able to beat Alabama on Saturday, the Rebels will likely head into their game the following weekend at Texas A&M believing that anything is possible.

As for the Tide, other than the Auburn game, Ole Miss may be the toughest remaining game on the Alabama Football schedule, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see 20% of Vaught Hemmingway Stadium filled with Crimson.  Oxford  is, after all, just a three hour drive from Tuscaloosa and as most SEC fans know, the Tide travels as well as any team in the conference. Even more than the new-found optimism in Oxford, that may be the biggest reason ticket prices for the game are breaking records.

Below is a list of the most expensive Ole Miss games in Oxford over the last four years.
